EHS Specialist
Duration: 12 months
Job Purpose:
Provide EHS leadership and technical guidance.
Develop and implement the Environmental, Safety, and Health Management System.
Ensure full compliance with:
Legal EHS requirements.
Global corporate standards, policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Industry best practices.
Support site operations to reach a mature sustaining level.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Serve as the EHS point of contact and owner of multiple cross-site local EHS standards.
Conduct EHS gap assessments and audits aligned with global standards, with emphasis on:
Industrial Hygiene
BioSafety
Chemical Management
Process Safety Management
Compile and submit required safety, health, and environmental reports to corporate and regulatory agencies.
Assist in managing contractor compliance and high-risk work safety procedures.
Ensure Pre-Start Up, Safety, Environment Reviews (PSSER) are compliant for new product introductions.
Support Tier 1 and Tier 2 “Run the Business” processes; implement and sustain EHS KPIs and event reporting.
Develop and support cross-site EHS training strategies for management and employees.
Manage EHS documentation through platforms such as:
Power BI
Enablon
Workday
SharePoint
MyLearning
Meds
Maintain records demonstrating compliance with EHS procedures and management systems.
Collaborate with site engineering and other teams to foster a “safe by choice” culture.
Ensure incidents are investigated with appropriate Corrective and Preventative Actions (CAPAs).
Coordinate performance reviews of events for trending CAPAs and Near Misses (NMs).
Review processes, procedures, facilities, and change management documents to ensure compliance.
Develop permitting strategies based on regulatory needs, site operations, and business plans.
Requirements:
Knowledge & Skills:
In-depth understanding of EHS regulatory requirements.
Ability to influence senior leaders and adapt to changing situations.
Skilled in managing complex programs and balancing strategic vs. tactical needs.
Proficient in risk management and implementing appropriate controls.
Experience in enterprise-wide EHS program implementation.
Change management experience.
Strong written and oral communication across all organizational levels.
Proven leadership and decision-making ability regarding EHS matters.
Education:
Degree in Environmental or Safety Management or related field, or
Technical primary degree with a postgraduate EHS qualification.
Experience:
5+ years EHS experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or chemical industries (other regulated sectors may be considered).
Experience supporting multiple activities/projects.
Experience working with regulatory agencies and corporate EHS support functions.
